ALDLAND Podcast

Soccer is on the mind of your favorite cohosts as the Champions League Final and World Cup get closer. Jurgen Klinsman’s omission of Landon Donovan from the US World Cup roster is a hot button issue, and ALDLAND can’t miss the chance to weigh in on it. So come for the soccer, and stay for the discussion of Miguel Olivo biting off part of Dodgers’ prospect Alex Guerrero’s ear.

Are you a basketball fan? Is it March Madness? Then why don’t you come down to ALDLAND’s Podcast Warehouse. We have a comprehensive podcast discussing the Sweet Sixteen and Elite Eight games as well as our predictions for the final weekend of college basketball before you have to watch baseball all summer (your mileage will vary on how much you enjoy that). You know what they say: come for the discussion of the Final Four, stay for the discussion of the Frozen Four. Will the nerds from Yale (pronounced Yah-Lay) win? How about the total bros from Qunnipiac? Or maybe that other school? Did you know there’s a school called UMass-Lowell? Well now you do.

Friday Night Bonus Jam

As promised on the ALDLAND podcast last night, I’m back with my first Friday jam in a while. Also as promised, it features ya boy Bangs, or Ur Boy Bangz as he styles himself now. No matter how Bangs chooses to spell his stage name, he is still bringing the noise when it comes to music. You only have to watch a tiny part of the video above to realize that in 20 years they will not be calling the Grammys by their present name, rather they will be renamed The Bangses.

No musician or musical group out there can hope to compete with Bangs, which is why it is sad that the Super Bowl made the decision to go with Beyonce rather than to get the best available act possible. The Super Bowl is arguably the biggest sports event in the world, and instead of the biggest musical act in the world we get more generic top 40 music. Maybe one day the organizers of this grand event will pony up the cash and get Bangs, but until then we will all just have to listen to his amazing music and watch his amazing videos (except for our international readers in Melbourne who can catch a Bangs show any time they want).

Seriously though, I would really like to take some time and lament how far the Super Bowl halftime show has fallen. I know no one watches the game for the halftime show, but after that whole Janet Jackson debacle they were on a great run for a while. Paul McCartney, the Stones, Prince, Tom f’ing Petty, the Boss and The Who. Bring back the classic rock, people! I know the kids might not like it, but kids are the worst! I am 100% positive that any of those above named guys could still rock out. What we really need though, is Van Halen. Kids need to learn what real music is. Okay, rant over. Have a great Super Bowl weekend, and whatever music you are listening to, make sure to do the Merton Hanks dance a bit to liven things up. See below for instructions.

ALDLAND Podcast

With all of you ALDLANDers out there getting excited for the Super Bowl, we had to put out a robust podcast covering that game, and also the biggest game of the weekend, Michigan at Indiana.  Join yours truly and Marcus as we cover everything from x’s and o’s to how dumb Chris Culliver is.  Come for the Super Bowl, stay for discussion of James Franklin being a weirdo.

Some Clever Title Involving the Number 21

Last night, the Red Wings set an NHL record with 21 straight home wins.  The record had previously been held jointly by the 1929-30 Bruins and the 1975-76 Flyers.  There has been a lot of chatter on the internets about how the Wings’ record does not mean as much because the two other teams that made it to 20 straight wins did it without overtime or shootouts.  That’s bogus . . . 21 straight wins at home is 21 straight wins at home, however you cut it.  The record wasn’t “number of wins at home in a row without overtime or a shootout.”  It’s just “number of wins at home in a row.”  There are also compelling arguments for why the Red Wings’ winning streak is equally as or more impressive than the ones rattled off by the Flyers and Bruins, such as the fact that the salary cap-era NHL features significantly more parity and the fact that the Red Wings continued this streak amidst several trips to and from the west coast.  In the end, the Wings should be happy about this accomplishment, but not too happy because I still expect to be flying back to Detroit for a parade in June.

Friday Bangs

From the moment that the video for Bangs’ single Take U 2 Da Movies hit the web, I knew he would be a star.  Since then he has topped that song multiple times over, with such awesome tunes as Meet Me on Facebook and I’m Going to the Ghetto.  His musical prowess has propelled Bangs to such great heights as starring in his own Honda commercial.  While he is not super famous on this side of the Pacific Ocean yet, that will come in time.  With music this awesome, people will one day talk about Bangs in the same breath as they talk about The Beatles or Elvis.  Do yourself a favor and check out his two albums, Hard to Be Up and Reflections.  And hey, at your next Christmas party, why not throw on the best holiday song of all time, Christmas Story?
