Jazzy Jam

I’m pretty sure we have yet to feature any jazz in this space, making today’s selection, like that library copy of Bedknob and Broomstick that was missing the final page, criminally overdue. I’m not all-in on jazz saxophonists, but there are a few I like, including Art Pepper, Cannonball Adderly, Branford Marsalis, and Wayne Shorter, the latter two of whom I’ve been fortunate to have seen perform live. (Our own Physguy isn’t half-bad either.)

This Jam is a thick effort from Marsalis:

  1. Is there a sound that screams jazz more than a saxophone?

Well I’m going to answer my own rhetorical question for you.

    No.

And I’m sorry that Charlie Parker didn’t make your sax list. He was a bit earlier than everyone on your list so maybe that’s why (either because of a different style or less exposure).

    • I do like Bird, probably should’ve included him. Maybe it’s just that I don’t like Coltrane as much as everyone else. I did see Ravi Coltrane once, though, and I was really impressed.
